Sailing Courses for Children in Singapore

logoSingapore is a great place for children to learn how to sail. There are a variety of programs available, and fees are quite reasonable.

The SAF Yacht Club provides a comprehensive training through its Get Kids Afloat Program. This is an introductory course for children from 7 to 17 years old. The course is given over a four day period during local school holidays. The course syllabus includes theory and practical lessons, as well as rigging, parts of a craft, points of sail, and capsize drills. Optimists, Toppers, and Laser Picos are all available depending on the size of the student.
The GKA costs between SGD 74 and SGD 321 depending on membership and legal status in Singapore.

The Republic of Singapore Yacht Club (RSYC) offers both introductory Optimist and Topper classes.

Topper classes are available for children 14 years old and above. The course lasts two days and costs SGD 200 for RSYC members and SGD 400 for guests.

The Optimist course is open for children from 8-14 years old. The two-day course costs SGD 150 for members and SGD 300 for guests. The five-day course is SGD 170 for members and SGD 340 for guests.

RYSC also offers dinghy practice sessions every Saturday from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. The monthly fee is SGD 40 for members and SGD 60 for guests.

The Changi Sailing Club provides an Optimist course for children between 8-12 years old. The course runs for three days from 10:00AM to 5:00PM and is available during weekdays and weekends. It costs SGD 200 for members and SGD 300 for non-members. Non-members will be provided with a 2-month free membership. And, course graduates are eligible to take part in the free training sessions every Sunday from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. Training boats can also be chartered during other times depending on availability.

The Singapore Sailing Federation offers a comprehensive set of courses that are designed to develop a child’s sailing skills in accordance to their specific objectives. Introductory, racing, and advanced courses are all available. Courses vary in length with some courses covering five months and others running continuously.
